GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTOR

LOCATION:          Dallas County YMCA

 

REPORTS TO:       Director

 

JOB CLASSIFICATION:  Part-time /Non-Exempt       STARTING WAGE: $11.15 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the program director, the gymnastics instructor leads, directs, and demonstrates the physical skills associated with the gymnastics sport. Promotes a positive, professional, and welcoming atmosphere by providing excellent leadership and supervision of participants while exemplifying our YMCA values. Enthusiastically greets participants while providing friendly and efficient service during the YMCA program.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be knowledgeable and adhere to Safety Policies, Procedures and Emergency Response Plans. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind.

  • Ensure that care of members is a key priority through direct supervision of Gymnastics staff during program time.

  • Ensure excellence and consistency in service through care of members, program participants, and volunteers.

  • Lead all program participants through Gymnastics Curriculum and activities, supervise the participants to ensure appropriate development occurs in a fun, healthy, and safe environment

  • May aid with set up and tear down of equipment.

  • Will work with beam, floor, trampoline and mini tramp, uneven bars, vault, etc.

  • Regulate gymnastics classes to ensure safety of the participants

  • Stop play when necessary and explain violations consistently and fairly.

  • Know, demonstrate, and interpret YMCA philosophy students.

  • Reports injuries to Program Director, follows safety procedures and guidelines.

  • Possess the ability to work with varying ages and to manage small to large groups.

  • Take initiative to greet and assist all members, potential members, program participants and volunteers in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner.

  • Works closely with the Program Director to address concerns of staff and/or members/participants, ensuring the program standards, outcomes, and member satisfaction is consistently achieved.

  • Sterilize all gymnastic equipment on a weekly basis

  • Strictly adhere to all Gymnastics policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules, as well as safety and conduct rules of the Ozarks Regional YMCA

  • Represent and promote the gymnastics program to participants, parents, staff, and volunteers.

  • Attends and participates in other YMCA program activities as needed, staff meetings, and trainings.

  • All other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.

  • A knowledge and a passion for gymnastics, cheer, and tumbling is preferred.

  • Mature, responsible, easy going individuals with good communication skills.

  • Must be able to interact with kids and adults in a positive manner, enthusiastic, flexible.

  • Must be able to align with and demonstrate the YMCA four core values on a consistent basis.

  • CPR Pro & First Aid Certification required within the first 30 days (training can be provided)

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

  • Ability to physically demonstrate or communicate proper technique to associated gymnastics, tumbling, or cheer physical activities.

  • Ability to safely spot program participants in uneven bars, beam, or in tumbling skills.

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
