Part-time Housekeeping/Maintenance Staff

Position: Part-time Housekeeping/Light maintenance Staff
Locations: Pat Jones YMCA
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor


General Functions:

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor with guidance from the Environmental Services Director, the Part Time Housekeeper/ Light Maintenance Staff, located in the Men’s Fitness Center at the Downtown Ward YMCA, will be responsible to perform routine and non-recurring custodial functions in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards of the Association and the Maintenance & Environmental Services departments.  This includes working with staff and volunteers, providing the best possible physical environment for the membership and the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attention to detail and timeliness in quality/thorough cleaning and preventative maintenance.  Quick response to address or report malfunctions

  • Attention and initiative to completion of outlined tasks and striving to better the facility appearance and operations

  • Maintains a professional appearance and attitude with an emphasis on service to “our customers”.

  • Understands safety comes first.  Always uses personal protective equipment when needed or desired, especially when required in accordance with established guidelines.

  • Attends required meetings and training sessions

  • Perform all general and necessary housekeeping and light maintenance tasks in a timely manner to ensure an attractive well-maintained facility for the use and enjoyment of our members and community

    • Perform general cleaning, painting, changing of lamps, and other equipment and building preventative and light maintenance functions that are a normal part of commercial building upkeep

    • Perform regular Men’s Fitness Center steam/sauna/shower and hot tubs cleaning along with water treatment as needed with appropriate written documentation as dictated by YMCA and Health Department standards/guidelines

  • Assist Maintenance Supervisor in simple facility repairs and projects as needed

  • During shift, assist in case of facility emergencies

  • Embraces customer service and the YMCA financial assistance campaign

  • Maintains records and communicates regularly on Job Logs, Work Orders, and other appropriate      documentation


Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent required

  • Prior experience in commercial housekeeping and facilities preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 70 pounds, climb, bend, stand for long periods of time, operate mechanical equipment and work in extreme heat or cold environments

  • Basic communication and customer service skills required

  • Have the ability to work with minimal or no supervision

  • Able to evaluate situations and make timely decisions within established policies and standards

  • Strong desire to continue on-going field training
