Program Coordinator

Position: Part-Time Program Coordinator

Reports to: Senior Program Director

Location: Pat Jones YMCA (1901 E Republic St, Springfield, MO 65804)
Wage Range: $11.95/hour 

Shifts Needed: Vary, may include evenings and weekends


Under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Program Coordinator will assist in sports and youth and family programming by helping with the planning and implementing of the programs. They will help with scheduling programs and staff, program set-up and sports field maintenance, and filling in when needed as program staff and/or to officiate sports games. He or she will attend, monitor, and regulate programs and train staff to enforce rules, as well as how to demonstrate the Y’s Core Values of Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibilities while communicating with staff, participants, and parents.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Maintain program areas prior to the program, including any set up/tear down.

  • Know, demonstrate and interpret YMCA philosophy to staff, officials, players, parents, and coaches.

  • Works closely with the Senior Program Director to advance the growth and development of the Program staff through training, coaching, mentoring and guidance to ensure exceptional safety, care and customer service.

  • Report injuries to the Senior Program Director, Follow and place an emphasis on all safety procedures and guidelines.

  • Works closely with the Senior Program Director to address concerns of staff and/or members/participants/parents.

  • Assist with the promotion of programming including new and innovative ways to strengthen program quality and enrollment; identification of areas of improvement and proactive problem solving.

  • Possess the ability to work with varying ages and to manage large groups.

  • Attends and participates in other YMCA program activities as needed, staff meetings, and trainings.

  • Demonstrate leadership and take initiative to greet and assist all members, potential members, program participants and volunteers in a courteous, professional and friendly manner.  Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities.

  • Ability to work flexible hours as program needs arise. 

  • Perform miscellaneous related duties, as assigned.


Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must have a passion for working with youth in sports and other programs.

  • Certifications:  CPR, First Aid, AED with 30 days of hire.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • The physical ability to supervise, instruct and lead groups of part-time staff and children relating to the programs.

  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
