Piranhas Coach: Kolbe
We are thrilled about having Kolbe Ledgerwood as the Piranhas Swim Team Coach at the Pat Jones YMCA. Kolbe grew up in Mountain View, a small town east of Springfield. Having a swim coach as a parent, Kolbe started swimming at a young age. He started swimming summer league in his hometown as a kid and continued on; joining the SPA swim team and his High School team.
Kolbe swam competitively still holding many records in his High School and summer league swim teams. Kolbe has also been a Certified Lifeguard since he was 16 through American Red Cross. He has also been working at the Pat Jones YMCA for the past 2 years and coaching over the last year. Kolbe is currently working towards his EMT certification.
He is passionate about helping kids become the best swimmers they can be.
At the beginner level swimmers are taught the 4 strokes that are used in competitive swim (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle).
They will be taught to perform each of these strokes at a legal level for the Highland Area Association. These swimmers will also be learning the 4 legal turns for each of the 4 strokes.
The most important thing these swimmers will be learning is that swimming is not just a great place to make friends, but also to have fun and enjoy swimming.
With this group knowing the basic knowledge of each stroke and turns, these swimmers will start to build and improve on each stroke technique and turn. This group will also start building into difficult practices and endurance workouts and, introduced to interval training.
At our highest-level group these swimmers will be building on into even more precise stroke techniques and turns. In this group swimmers will be exposed to difficult workouts with much more interval-based sets.
