Why the Y Matters
This is a day in the life of a single working mom:
My kids are out of school for the summer. I still have to work my minimum wage job. Are they old enough to stay home? Maybe or maybe not. Do I want them binging on Netflix or playing X-Box? Not really. I need more for my children. A safe and positive environment.
The YMCA provides that peace of mind for me in several ways. I am a single mom. I can still go to work every day and not worry where my children will be. They are safe. They are learning to listen, follow rules, play games, field trips, crafts, swim and all the things I otherwise could not provide.
I am a single mom working to provide the basics for my children: food, shelter, clothes. Can I afford Summer Day Camp and all that it encompasses?
The YMCA provides me with financial assistance. Because of this, I am a better employee-less stress worrying about my children and what they are doing. I can go to work every day because my children have a safe place to be-The YMCA.
Because of the Y, my children can attend Camp Wakonda. Play in a lake, fish, archery, canoe or kayak. I love the Y because it provides my children this opportunity I otherwise could not afford.
This is my life for the summer. This is just ONE example of many in our community. The YMCA plays a VITAL role in building a better community. You can help build up our children one scholarship at a time.
Our Annual Campaign provides over $500,000 a year in financial assistance to thousands in our community.
$50 Helps a child learn good sportsmanship and team skills through summer youth sports
$250 Provides one child from a low-income home with a fun-filled week at Camp Wakonda
$500 Provides a single mom with one month of childcare, allowing her to work to support her family
$1,000 Provides a teen with positive alternatives to at-risk behavior for the summer
$2,500 Sponsors 25 kids for a full week of summer day camp
The Ozarks Regional YMCA financially supports thousands of men, women, and children every year – regardless of age, income, or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve health and well-being and to provide opportunities to give back and support our neighbors. I hope you find it in your heart today to donate.
