For Help. For Hope.
“Breast cancer is a sisterhood you don’t wish on anyone.” Annette shared with me.
I’ve known Annette Rowe, through the Y, for almost a decade and it’s hard to imagine that someone as active, fit and healthy as she has ever been sick. But it really didn’t faze me when I found out she was a survivor of breast cancer. Annette is only one of many women I could have talked to for this article.
As I listened to Annette’s story and the roller coaster of emotions – back and forth from being mad, to “you are not
doing that. Kick it.” She inspired me and it reminded me of the saying, “alone we are strong… together we are stronger.”
In honor of our loved ones and because October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, here at the Ozarks Regional YMCA we will “Think Pink” by celebrating with several fun events!
Join us first on Friday, October 12th as we “Run for the One.” Treadmills will be set up in the lobby of each facility and we will walk or run in honor of our courageous loved ones. Sign-up at the front desk and let’s “Run for the One” from open until close!
Then on Saturday, October 13th we will flood our facilities with PINK during our quarterly Les Mills Launch, and shine a spotlight on our amazing wellness programs. Check your facility for details. Together is more fun!
In addition, the Ozarks Regional YMCA will be sharing 50% of our joiner fees with the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO) for the entire month of October! Here at the Y we serve each of our communities in unique and heartfelt ways, and love taking the opportunity to collaborate and partner with other non-profits to serve more of our community.
Why the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks? BCFO offers personal support and comfort in real and practical ways through: support networks and mentoring programs, a full range of resources regarding breast cancer awareness, diagnosis and treatment, where to find related community services, and more. Together we can do more!
